Jacob Brent
Costuming

like the graphics i added to my pic?

Hello again every body. Mistometer here to inform you about Misto-wanabee's. The picture above is a picture of me as Misto. I modeled my costume after the one Jake wore in the CATS video. Below this text is what I did to get my costume to look like the pic above this text. I hope I can be helpful!

The very first step I took was to search through costuming websites. I found a lot of great websites but CATS Costuming (linked below) was where I got most of my ideas.

Since I wanted to be the Jacob Brent type Misto I printed out lots of pictures from the movie. Close up's of his face and full body shots. I studied them to see what I would need to make my costume and how I was going to do it.

Then, I went and seached ADA Discount DanceWear for the things I needed. I bough a full black unitard and a cat wig that came with little cat gloves. Then I went to my local craft store and bought faux fur and a black boa.

I had my Jazz shoes handy so that was fine. (If you dont have any you can purchase them from a dance Catalouge or store)

Being Halloween time, there was tons of face paint out so I just went to my local CVS and bought black, white and grey liquid make up, face crayons and cream make up. I also bought a bunch of fine make up brushes to apply it with.

Once my supplies were all at my reach, i began to assemble my costume.

I didnt see any point in ruining a good unitard so instead of sewing everything on to it, I used safety pins.

I cut out a house shaped piece of lambs whool and pinned it on to the top of my unitard.

Then I took 12 equal lengths of black yarn and braided them for the belt part of my tail.

I folded the boa in half to make it shorter and thicker and sewed a piece of white fur on the end of it to look like Misto's. Then I just put the two pieces together to make my tail.

For my leg warmers I sewed a piece of white fake fur up and pit elastic on the top and bottem. I used a black sharpie and black paint to make the markings on it.

For my arm warmers, I used one of the glove things that came with my wig. It was just a black arm warmer type thing with elastic to hold it on my hand. I used white paint to make the white markings on it. For the other arm I used a small piece of faux fur and used a black permanant marker to make the markings on it. I used the pictures I had to make the markings look like in the video.

The wig was the hardest task of them all. The wig I got was a hood so I cut the bottem part that made it a hood off, but once I had done that, it didn't cover my ears any longer. So I cut apart the hood part I had previously choped off and sewed pieces on it to cover my ears. Then I trimmed the hair to look like Misto's, put tons of hair spray, gel and mouse in it to get it to stick up the way it should. Once it was shaped right I just took a paint brush and white paint and panted two light little white stripes on the top like in the pictures of Misto.

For the face paint, I just tried to mimic the pictures. I used the creme make up to make my face completely white first. Then I used a siverely fine brush to put the accents on the upper lip and a larger one for the head, side of my face and eyebrows.

After that and when it was halloween, I dressed myself in it and went to get candy.

AND THAT, was how I made my costume.
